farm2kidz creates a network around school food:
- kids and their adults learn where their food comes from
- teachers educate children about food with daily examples of the school menu
- schools plan menus, keep track of inventory and showcase their sustainability efforts
- farmers get recognition from the community
Food origin on DLT
The platform farm2kidz traces the origin of school food and includes information about weekly menu, ingredients, production dates, how it’s made, nutrition, quality certificates.
Food origin is the name of the game in farm2kidz. It can get kids excited about what food is and how it is made. It is also an opportunity for schools, and the cities and regions behind them, to implement sustainable food procurement and make the case for improved urban food policies.
Sustainable agriculture
“Sustainable” is a big word. In farm2kidz we aim to make visible all the efforts that make up sustainable agriculture.
Small farmers get to show their:
- fields and landscapes
- soil and water practices
- biodiversity and all the help they get (or not) from their dog
- plant health, animal care, production steps
- all the machinery
- certifications
Learn about health
We developed farm2kidz as a tool to get kids excited about food and help teachers approach the topic.
Providing children with diverse nutritious food, and talking about it, is the best way to learn about health and nutrition.
Draw the food
All clicks in farm2kidz, menu to ingredients, are designed to be art - done by the kids and uploaded by the school. It can be a drawing, a photo, a gif or a manga board.
Each week farm2kids looks the way kids want it to look.
